They are loathsome pests, spreading filth and ruining food, fabrics and book bindings. They also mechanically transmit pathogenic bacteria including those of diarrhoeal diseases. They regurgitate food thereby contaminating the surface on which they crawl.
Common breeding sides are house drains chambers, ducts and pipes, food preparation and storage areas with high humidity.
